We drive south east to the German border and continue to the region of Baden Wurttemberg and Karlsruhe for the night. Hotel Achat.
We drive south to the Swiss border and continue to Italy, the region of Lombardy and our overnight hotel in the walled town, Bergamo. NH Hotel.
We continue south via Bologna and enter the magical region of Tuscany, bypassing the capital of the region, Florence, before arriving at our resort, Castel del Piano, for seven nights. Hotel Grand Impero.
Castel del Piano lies in the foothills below Mount Amiata, surrounded by wooded mountains, beech forests, fruit orchards and vineyards. It boasts a medieval centre, which is a short walk from our hotel. Our programme highlights the beauty of this sun-kissed region and we visit Montepulciano, a medieval hilltop town known for its ‘vins nobile’, the famous red wine which we shall sample at a local wine tasting and Pienza, a renaissance town in the beautiful Val d’Orcia. We travel to Siena, where we enjoy a walking tour of this medieval town, famous for the twice-yearly horse race, the Palio di Siena. We visit an authentic, family-run winery and taste the superb wines and visit a local cheese farm to sample the local produce. A visit will be made to Grosetto, capital of the Maremma Region and Castiglione della Pescaia, a popular coastal town. We allow ample time to relax in Castel del Piano and we enjoy a wine and olive oil tasting in our hotel.
Homeward bound, as we travel north to Stresa, set on the sparkling waters of Lake Maggiore, for the night. Regina Palace Hotel.
We continue north to the Swiss Border and Basel, where we cross into France and the region of Alsace. Tonight is spent on the outskirts of Strasbourg, formal seat of the European Parliament. Hotel Mercure.
Our route this morning is north to the Luxembourg border, before entering Belgium. We continue to the Dutch frontier and Rotterdam, where our ferry awaits for the overnight crossing to Hull. Twin low-berth outside cabins. Dinner and breakfast on board ship.
We return to Scotland after a wonderful, panoramic Italian coach holiday.
