We re-join our touring coach and travel to the province of Flevoland and Almere, stage of The Floriade International Horticulture Expo 2022. The Floriade takes place once every ten years and is the place to enjoy the scent and colour of flowers, plants, vegetables and fruit. The Expo offers 40 inspiring country presentations, a spectacular greenhouse complex, a cable car over The Floriade park, pavilions with sustainable innovations and a vibrant arts and cultural programme. We return to Zaandam for a relaxing evening on board our ship.
Another spectacular day, as we travel by coach to the world famous Keukenhof Gardens to view acres of multi-coloured flowers in a delightful setting of parkland and ornamental lakes. Known as ‘The Garden of Europe’, it is one of the world’s largest flower gardens. Keukenhof covers an area of 32 hectares and approximately 7 million flower bulbs are planted in the gardens annually. A leisurely day meandering the waterways of Holland and marvelling at the striking colours of the magnificent Bulb Fields, a typical sight in Holland each Spring.
We bid farewell to the captain, and enjoy a leisurely morning in charming Alkmaar, before travelling to Haarlem, a medieval city and capital of the province of North Holland. Home of Frans Hals, one of the great painters of the ‘Dutch Golden Age’, Haarlem is a secret European gem and we soak up the atmosphere of this charming city.
