Our touring programme takes us to the fabulous Waddesdon Manor, once home of the Rothschild family. Built in the style of a French chateau, this opulent house offers extravagant interiors with exquisite furniture, porcelain, paintings and carpets. The gardens are extensive, ranging from woodland walks to formally laid beds. They remain in keeping with those originally set out by the Rothschild family, whom many considered at the time to be at the forefront of Victorian gardening. We visit the beautiful village of Stoke Bruerne, where we board a short canal boat on the Grand Union Canal. A visit will be made to Castle Ashby Garden, where we explore the parkland designed by Capability Brown, including formal Italian gardens, an Arboretum and a small Animal Menagerie. A lovely walled garden tea shop adds to the enjoyment of the visit. We travel to the remarkable Rockingham Castle, where we enjoy a self-guided tour. Built on the instruction of William the Conqueror and frequented by Charles Dickens, the castle has been in the hands of the current owners family for over 450 years. We visit Huntingdon, a market town in Cambridgeshire and birthplace of Oliver Cromwell and Oxford, the City of Dreaming Spires, renowned throughout the world as a centre of learning. A local guide will introduce us to the medieval charm of this University City.
We return to Scotland after a an interesting and memorable coach holiday
