Hotel Deutscher Hof
A beautifully appointed, centrally located hotel, with a short walk to the old city and Markets. All rooms are fully equipped with a complimentary tea/coffee tray. Rich buffet breakfasts and tasty evening meals will add to the enjoyment of our three night stay.
We leave from our local departure points and drive south to Hull, where our ferry awaits for the overnight crossing to Rotterdam. Twin low-berth outside cabins. Dinner and breakfast on board ship.
Our route is south to the province of Limburg and Maastricht, where we enjoy a spot of festive shopping in this cosmopolitan
city. Situated on the banks of the River Maas, Maastricht is distinguished by its medieval architecture and cobbled old town
along with its vibrant cultural scene. We continue south to the German border and our base for three nights in Trier. Hotel
Trier is Germany’s oldest city and an important site for classical monuments and art treasures. This can be seen at the Porta Nigra, the best-preserved city gate from Roman times and today the most famous landmark of this city on the banks of The Moselle. We spend a relaxing day perusing the many colourful stalls in one of the loveliest Christmas Markets in Germany. The markets are set amidst the medieval surroundings of the market square, in front of the mighty cathedral.
It is a leisurely walk from the hotel to the many festively decorated wooden huts and as we are based in Trier, we can visit the Markets after dark, when they become particularly atmospheric. We travel to Luxembourg City where we soak up the atmosphere of the traditional Christmas Markets in the many city squares. The stalls offer hand-crafted items, heart-shaped gingerbread, wooden toys and much more and we have the opportunity to try the ‘Gromperekichelcher’ (Potato Fritters)!!
We return via ever-popular Valkenburg, the Christmas Town of The Netherlands, for a spot of retail therapy before continuing to Rotterdam where our ferry awaits for the overnight crossing to Hull. Twin low-berth outside cabins. Dinner and breakfast on board ship.
We return to Scotland late afternoon after a magical Christmas Market experience.
