We travel south via Antwerp and the Belgian Ardennes to the French border and our overnight hotel in Forbach. Hotel Mercure Forbach Centre.
Our route takes us via Basel and the Swiss border and onwards to the capital, Bern, where we pause to explore one of Europe’s smallest capitals, set in a crook of the river Aare. We continue to our beautiful resort, Grindelwald, for six nights. Hotel Kreuz & Post.
Grindelwald is one of the most popular alpine destinations in Switzerland and an ideal base from which to explore the fabulous surrounding area and Bernese Alps. We visit the pretty town of Thun, known for its wooden bridges and the raised pavements of the historic Obere Hauptgasse and Lucerne, famous for its preserved medieval architecture and colourful old town. A visit will be made to the elegant town of Interlaken, gateway to the Jungfrau region and picturesquely situated between the sparkling waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz and Meiringen, where Sherlock Holmes reputedly met his death. We enjoy a scenic train ride from Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwald and a relaxing boat trip on Lake Thun. Ample leisure time in Grindelwald will allow us to enjoy our wonderful resort and the spectacular views of the Eiger.
We travel north to France and Colmar, where we stop to enjoy this picturesque old town with its half-timbered medieval buildings on the Alsace Wine Road, before continuing to the German border and our overnight hotel in Saarbrucken. Hotel Mercure Saarbrucken Sud.
We return via France and Belgium to the Dutch border and Rotterdam, where our ferry awaits for the overnight crossing to Hull.
We return to Scotland after a majestic Swiss coach holiday.
